2008 - 2009 Our Chapter Hosts the Northwest Regional Conference

As we get closer to the date of the Northwest Regional Conference in May, the organizing committee is busily at work making final arrangements. As of April 10, registrations are coming in and the hotel is filling up.

On March 29, Orphalee Smith and Elsie Heinrick, two of our chapter's founding members, were inducted into the YWCA Northwest Women's Hall of Fame for outstanding service to the community over many years. We are very proud of their accomplishments and congratulate them on being selected for this honor!

Our chapter was featured in an article in The Bellingham Herald on March 10, 2009, along with a picture of our Northwest Regional Conference committee in action. Our President, Isabel Bradley, was interviewed for the article, and she stated that one of her goals is a community outreach program on financial literacy.

2007 - 2008

Kelly Bachman took over as President in June and got us started with a planning session that led to our overall strategy for the year: Serving women accountants with indispensible programs for connected members.

The Controller's Seminar, chaired by Marci Hanson, was held at the end of September at the Fairhaven Library in Bellingham and was well received. Twenty five people attended, several of them non-members or former members, and the chapter netted $2,563. Since there had been a joint chapter decision with Seattle to discontinue Fall Seminar, the Controller's Seminar filled the gap with 8 hours of CPE.

At the September dinner meeting, a photographer from a new local business publication called took pictures to accompany an article in an upcoming issue about our chapter of ASWA.

In October, Kelly, Debbie Whitcomb and Mary Pat Thuma attended the Joint National Conference of ASWA and AWSCPA in Orlando, Florida. The weather was not what they had hoped, but they were able to take advantage of some extra time to see the sights.

After several years of meeting at the Best Western with meals catering by Emerald Bay Catering, the monthly dinner meetings were moved to Bob's Burgers and Brew in downtown Bellingham.

In May, several of our members attended the NWRC hosted byt eh Bellevue Chapter. Reports were that the CPE was awesome and a good time was had by all. At lunch on Saturday, Nancy and Marci presented a short video about Bellingham accompanied by a quiz to advertise NWRC 2009, which our chapter is hosting. Our members in attendance also wore "Go for the Gold" T-shirts pictured below.
